Belgrade Theatre Announce New Shows for Autumn/Winter 2019

Good evening everyone I hope you’re well! I can’t believe it’s almost the weekend already and I for one, cannot wait!

Weekends are perfect to do all the things you wish you could do in the week but have to work. The Belgrade Theatre have some amazing shows coming up so save some time to go see them when they come out!

I haven’t actually been to the theatre for ages, nor have I been to the Belgrade Theatre yet so it’s really good to get a sneak peak of what is to come, as well as share what shows we’re expecting later on in 2019.

i hope you’re super excited just as I am for what’s to come!

Summer will be here before we know it (even though at this moment in time the weather is AWFUL!) and then before we know it those days of sitting in the beer garden after work will be done and replaced by Pumpkin Spiced Latte’s in cafes with free WiFi. Then autumn will be upon us.

The Belgrade Theatre are already miles ahead of us with this their new line up of classic drama, musicals, opera, live music and more lined up for Autumn/Winter 2019.

A host of new shows will go on general sale this week following season highlights that were previously announced including – The Entertainer, The Gruffalo, Horrible Histories and Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story.

A new host of shows go on general sale this week, including exciting co-productions of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Hanif Kureishi’s My Beautiful Laundrette.

Showing between 2nd-12th October Rona Munro‘s new Frankenstein adaption will place author Mary Shelley centre stage, whilst exploring her life and what led up to the creation of the one and only Frankenstein. Frankenstein is produced by the Belgrade Theatre, Selladoor Productions, Matthew Townshend and Perth Theatre at Horsecross Arts.

Frankenstein has personally never been my cup of tea so I won’t be opting to go and watch this, however I’m sure any Frankenstein fans will LOVE this and plus it’s on a couple of weeks before Halloween which is perfect timing!

Then from the 29th October-2nd November Hanif Kureishi’s Oscar-nominated 1985 screenplay is revisited in a bold new staging of My Beautiful Laundrette from the Belgrade Theatre, Curve Leicester, Everyman Theatre Cheltenham and Leeds Playhouse.

The screenplay is set in London during the Thatcher years and is a comedy that tells the story of Omar, a young British Pakistani who transforms his uncle’s run-down launderette into a thriving business with the help of old school friend Johnny. During a confrontation with a fascist gang, Omar recognises Johnny and uses their shared history to defuse the situation. As they work together to renovate the launderette, love blossoms between them.

Now see this sort of screenplay is RIGHT up my street and when I studied both drama and creative writing at university I LOVED writing this style of screenplay too. I would really love to go and watch this with my boyfriend for a date night.

Thrills are in store when N. J. Crisp’s Dangerous Obsession opens in Coventry for just two days between 10th-12th October, unfolding a shocking story of twisted revenge and shattering revelations. When Sally Driscoll is suddenly interrupted by a mysterious suited man, she has no idea of the secrets that his search for retribution will unearth.

Again this is another screenplay I would LOVE to go and see!

Live music lovers can look forward to spectacular performances when The Goldhawks perform The Who’s unforgettable album Tommy in its entirety on Wednesday 9th October, followed by the return of Navi as The King of Pop himself on Friday 17th January.

Finally, Olivier Award-winners OperaUpClose are back on Thursday 6th February with the premiere of their new English version of Puccini’s classic Madam Butterfly, told from a female, East Asian perspective.

So for all of you who are interested in one, two or even all of these shows I know you’re wondering when you can buy tickets? Well I have good news because tickets to all of the shows mentioned (and more) are available to book now!

You can book by calling the box office on 024 7655 3055 or visiting www.belgrade.co.uk where prices are cheaper.

Are you going to have a look into booking yourself, friends, family and/or loved ones into seeing a show this Autumn/Winter 2019 at the Belgrade Theatre? I think I might to be honest with you for a change.
